Blog #1: The Day Our Lives Changed Forever

Published on 16 August 2025 at 16:32

Monday the 27th March 2025 10.35am.

I was at work when the call came. Just a normal morning nothing out of the ordinary.

The voice on the other end of the phone hesitated.
Then came the words that didn’t make sense:

“Peter’s dead.”

I froze.
“What do you mean?”

Bailey and Corey’s dad.
Gone. Just like that.
He was only 38.

They told me he’d been found in his car around 9:15am. A passing ambulance crew saw him, stopped, and tried desperately to save his life working on him for nearly an hour. But it was too late.

He couldn’t be saved.

Everything stopped. I collapsed to my knees but my mind went straight to the kids.

Where are Bailey and Corey?
Are they with him?

How do I tell them their dad is never coming back?

I could feel their whole world falling apart before they even knew.

Two beautiful children, each at such different stages of life now about to lose one half of them.

As I took a moment to make a plan I felt my auntie strength kick in. This is a strength beyond anything i can describe its just in me.

I can't be broken and will find strength in the darkest times.

As I made my way to their individual schools, one by one, carrying a truth I never imagined I’d have to deliver I thought about the words I would use, and how they would react.

On the outside, I looked calm. Inside, I was crumbling.

What does this mean for them?
How do we begin to rebuild from something like this?

There’s no script. No perfect words.
Just love, and the strength to show up when everything in you wants to fall apart.
